Trencadis like this was used as a surface decoration on many of Gaudi's architectural projects.
*Trencadis are broken pieces of ceramic tile or dinnerware used in Catalan Modernisme architecture.  Gaudi was the first to revive this Arabic style when he realized that flat pieces of tile could not be used to cover surfaces of his irregularly shaped architectural forms.  Broken tiles were readily availble in Barcelona as it was a tile production hub of Europe.

Our newsletter, "The Traveling Trencadis"  engenders the delightful concept of unique, sometimes broken  individuals throughout the world coming together to form something beautiful.  (Now that's really deep!)
